Paul Pogba angry with United teammate Alexis Sanchez
Paul Pogba has reacted badly to Alexis Sanchez’s arrival at Manchester United and is angry that he has had to take on extra defensive duties as a result, according to reports.
The French midfielder has endured a difficult few weeks, subbed off early in defeats to Tottenham and Newcastle, while he was dropped entirely from the starting XI that beat Huddersfield in the Premier League.
Pogba has been criticised for neglecting his defensive duties and leaving United exposed, and has even asked Jose Mourinho to change the team’s formation to help him.
And now Duncan Castles, writing for Arab News, has revealed that Pogba’s ego has been severely dented by the January arrival of Sanchez.
Pogba’s camp believe the United team should be built around him, but instead it has already been tailored towards Sanchez within just a few weeks of the Chilean being swapped with Arsenal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The former Juventus midfielder is discontent with having to take on extra defensive duties to compensate for Sanchez’s roaming, and wants Mourinho to field a three-man midfield to help him.
Pogba’s team have already made noises about wanting wage parity with Sanchez, who is thought to be taking home around £150,000-a-week more than the Frenchman.
Mourinho appears unlikely to bow to Pogba’s demands to play an extra midfielder just yet, and is of the belief that the 24-year-old has the physical and technical qualities needed to perform the role asked of him.
However, the United boss will target a new holding midfielder in the summer, which will serve the dual purpose of freeing Pogba and providing an heir to the retiring Michael Carrick.
